 TILE ART
- Tile Art is a beautiful collection of handcrafted cermaic tiles
that can be used to decorate your home or to give as a unique
lasting gift. There are more than 80 designs in the collection that
have been carefully chosen or designed for Boutique Imagination.
Each tile meticulously hand painted by skilled craftspeople using
traditional methods dating to the Chinese Tang Dynasty 618 AD. -

The artistic process is extremely labour intensive. The first step is to draw the image onto the rough tile surface and then the relief work (Tube Lining) is carefully applied using a rubber bag filled with liquid clay (Slip). The rubber bag is held in the palm of the hand and pressure is applied to force the "Slip" through a glass nozzle. It is important to keep the pressure constant and even. The tiles are then hand painted with several layers of beautiful and complex liquid qlazes with the "Tube Lining" acting has a barrier to prevent bleeding from the different coloured glazes. The tiles are then fired in kilns for up to 24 hours at temperatures reaching 1000 Celsius (1800 Farenheit). It takes 6 hours before the tiles are cool enough to be be removed from the kiln.

- Each tile is fitted with either a wooden backing board with a hole for hanging and a foldaway stand, or a black felt backing board with a hook for hanging. The backs can be easily be removed enabling them to be used as wall tiles.
